Xiaomi has launched its latest budget smartphone, the Redmi 6 in China today along with a less powerful model, the Redmi 6A. Both the Redmi 6 and 6A are successors to last year’s Redmi 5 and 5A. The new Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A comes with a notch-less display and is powered by MediaTek chipsets. Both the Redmi 6 and 6A will be available in China starting June 15th.
Xiaomi Redmi 6A
The Redmi 6A is the cheapest one and has a 5.45-inch HD+ IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1440×720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core chipset paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which is expandable via microSD card up to 256GB. Under the hood, it is fueled by a 3,000mAh battery with no fast charging support. The Redmi 6A runs MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
As for the cameras, the Redmi 6A packs a single 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and LED Flash. At the front, it comes with 5MP selfie sensor with f/2.2 aperture. You can also use the front camera for face unlock as well.

The Redmi 6 has an exact same display as the Redmi 6A, which is a 5.45-inch HD+ (2160×1080 pixels) IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio and pixel density of 295ppi. The Redmi 6 has a 12nm 2.0GHz Octa-Core Helio P22 chipset processor onboard. It is offered in two variants – 3GB RAM paired with 32GB storage variant and 4GB RAM paired with 64GB storage variant. The phone does support memory expansion via a microSD card up to 256GB. It houses 3,000mAh battery just like on the Redmi 6A and runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10 skin on top. In terms of connectivity, it offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, IR Blaster, 3.5mm audio jack, and MicroUSB 2.0 port.
As far as cameras are concerned, it features a dual camera setup at the back which combines one standard 12MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture while another being a 5MP telephoto lens with f/2.0 aperture. Furthermore, the camera also features Portrait Mode, HDR, Night Enhancement, EIS, Scene Selection, etc. On the front, there’s a 5-megapixel sensor for capturing selfies and video-calling. The front camera features include portrait mode and AI Face Unlock.

Pricing and Availability
Coming to the pricing, the Redmi 6A is priced at 599 Yuan or $94(approx Rs.10,090) for 2GBRAM/16GB storage variant while the powerful Redmi 6 will cost 799 Yuan (approx Rs.13,450) and 999 Yuan(approx Rs.16,830) for the 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB variants respectively. The Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A will go on sale on June 15 in China. No word yet from Xiaomi on the availability of the phones on other markets including Nepal.
