Today, OPPO has launched its new mid-range phone, dubbed as OPPO A83 at an event held in China. The Oppo A83 is the latest addition to Oppo’s A series smartphone lineup. Priced at CNY 1399 (approx Rs.21900), the smartphone comes with a dazzling 18:9 aspect ratio display and features a new facial recognition technology.

In terms of specifications, the new Oppo A83 boasts a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and adopts the trendy aspect ratio of 18:9. On the front, it is further layered by a 2.5D curved glass. As for the processor, it houses a 2.5GHz Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P23 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage. The internal storage can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. The device is backed by a 3,180mAh battery and operates on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 /b/g/n, GPS, Micro-USB, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm audio jack, and Wi-Fi Direct.
In the optics department, the phone packs a 13MP rear camera with an LED flash. On the front, it comes with an 8MP front-facing camera backed by AI beauty for shooting selfies and video calling. Moreover, the front camera can also be used for scanning the face to unlock the device. The company claims that the device can unlock the phone in just 0.18 seconds. Surprisingly, the company has ditched the fingerprint sensor in favor of facial recognition feature.

Pricing and Availability
Coming to the pricing, the Oppo A83 costs CNY 1,399((approx Rs.21900)) and will be available in two color options- Champagne Gold and Black. The phone is already up for pre-order on OPPO’s online shop and is set to go on sale in China from December 29. However, there’s no word yet on the availability of the phone in any other markets outside China.
